  Xcel Energy has brought Smart Grid to life, with its fully-operational Smart Grid City system servicing Boulder, CO. Company executives and founding partner Accenture discuss the concept, which utilizes wireless in its smart meters and in other ways to enable important two-way communication throughout the network, providing efficiency, and cost and environmental savings.

  Motorists in downtown San Francisco are participating in a pilot project that allows them to use their wireless devices to locate empty parking spaces on city streets. This novel program is designed to reduce carbon emissions, traffic congestion, and save valuable time.
