WASHINGTON, DC – CTIA - The Wireless Association® President and CEO Steve Largent issued the following statement today in response to the final passage of the “New and Emerging Technologies 911 Improvement Act of 2008” by the U.S. Congress:
“On behalf of the CTIA, I’d like to thank the Members of the House and Senate who worked diligently on this important legislation, including Senators Bill Nelson (D-FL) and Olympia Snowe (R-ME), as well as Representatives Bart Gordon (D-TN) and John Shimkus (R-IL). We applaud their leadership, bipartisan effort throughout this process, and commitment to the important goal of ensuring consumer access to the emergency network. The wireless industry also commends the enactment of the fee accountability requirement and agrees that E911 monies should be used for their intended purposes.
“We are hopeful that President Bush will sign this important piece of legislation into law.”
