CTIA–The Wireless Association® Commends Congress for Enactment of the Passenger Rail Investment and Improvement Act
October 2, 2008
WASHINGTON, DC – CTIA-The Wireless Association® President and CEO Steve Largent issued the following statement today in response to the U.S. Senate’s approval of the “Passenger Rail Investment and Improvement Act” (H.R. 2095). The legislation, when signed into law, will allow any licensed wireless carrier to provide service in the Washington, DC Metro system:
“One of the hallmarks of our nation’s capital is the public transportation system, Metrorail. Due to the unwavering efforts of Congress, millions of wireless users will soon be able to enjoy the convenience and safety of using their wireless device on the Metro.
“History shows that fierce competition among providers will tenaciously follow wireless service wherever it goes, and H.R. 2095 is proof of that fact.
“I commend the authors of this important legislation for their steadfast commitment and support; and all members of Congress who worked so hard to ensure that wireless users across the country will have access to their service when in our capital’s outstanding Metro system.”
